Ramlila Maha Sangh

After the creation of “Ramayana” by Maharshi Valmiki, Bhagwan Sri Ram became an ideal and being worshipped by all .

The epic ‘Ramayana’ was translated in several languages after “Ram Charit Manas”, written by Goswami Tulsi Das.

Stagery of Ramlila has now become an integral part of Indian Culture. After the erection of Red Fort ( the famous Lal Quilla) Mughal Badshah himself took keen interest in viewing the stagery of holy epic Ramlila at the ground just in front of Chandni Chowk, Delhi.

The British Rulers never gave way to the Indian Culture to nurture but such negative attitude could not be able to restrain the social and religious minded people from celebrating/staging Ramlila and by and large the number of Ramlilas was unexpectedly increased. The so-called equity in religion had neglected the Hindu Religious Organisations and unfortunately there were differences in astrological calculation and as a result the religious cults were being observed on different dates.

With the intention to remove social and other problems being arised time and again ‘Ramlila Maha Sangh’ was established in the year 1997 by joint effort of Sh. Sukhbir Saran Agarwal, Lala Bansi Dhar Gupta, Sh. Prem Chand Gupta, Sh. Jai Narain Khandelwal, Sh. Braj Bhushan Sharan, Sh. Arjun Kumar, Sh., Dinesh Sharma, Sh. Ram Kishan Gupta, Sh. Chand Kishore Agarwal, Sh. Krishan Basia, Sh, Naresh Goel, Sh. Rakesh Gupta, Sh. Ram Lal Asdi, Sh. Ved Prakash Jindal and Sh. Agrasen Singhal etc.

Some of the works initiated by Ramlila Maha Sangh as under :-
1) Made efforts to get rid of problems being faced by the Ramlila Committees time and again and achieved success.
2) Adopted a resolution against the Taliban Government in protest against destruction of the statue of Lord Buddha in Afghanistan.
3) Took initiative to get the lands allotted to Lav-Kush Ramlila Committee and Nav Shri Dharmik Lila Committee for Ramlila celebration after MCD refused them allotmemt of the Park in front of Red Fort.

A meeting was convened by the Ramlila Maha Sangh which was attended by the representatives of Sanatan Dharm, Arya Samaj and other intellectuals including the Calculators /Astrologers to discuss and solve the problems/differences relating to dates for Ramlila and Dussehra celebration. After discussions it was agreed that Ramlila should be observed from 26th Sept. 2003 to 06th Oct. 2003 and Dussehra on 05th October, 2003.To day Ramlila Maha Sangh has emerged as the foremost among the existing religious organisations in Delhi and the Government is also giving importance to the decisions of the Maha Sangh.

I am absolutely certain that the Office-bearers and the Members of Ramlila Maha Sangh will remain active and extend their services for the cause of the society and religion as well.
